Privacy notice
Who we are
nearu is run by James Morris, trading as nearu, based in Cardiff. We are the data controller for the details you give us on this site. You can reach us at hello@nearu.wales.
What we collect
When you register your interest, we collect:
- your email address
- your area, as the first half of your postcode (e.g. CF11)
- if you run a shop: its name, what it sells and anything you tell us about how nearu could help
- if you shop: anything you tell us about what would make you shop local online, and what you'd buy
- if you answer the optional questions after registering: your answers, kept with your email so we can match them to your sign-up
- that you agreed to hear from us, and when you signed up
We don't use cookies, analytics or tracking on this site. Our hosting provider keeps short-lived server logs, including IP addresses, to keep the site running and secure.
How we use it
We use your details only to:
- invite you to test nearu, ask for your feedback and tell you when it launches
- if you run a shop, get in touch about testing it with your shop
- understand which areas and kinds of shop are interested, so we know where to start
Our lawful basis is your consent, which you give by pressing the register button, after the form explains we'll email you. You can withdraw it at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email or by emailing us.
Who we share it with
We never sell your details or share them for anyone else's marketing. We use a few service providers to run the site, who only process your details on our instructions:
- Resend, which stores the mailing list and sends our emails
- Netlify, which hosts this website
- Google Workspace, where we receive and keep each sign-up
Some of these providers store data in the United States. Where they do, the transfer is protected by the UK–US data bridge or the UK's approved standard contract terms.
How long we keep it
We keep your details until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. If nearu doesn't go ahead, we'll delete everyone's details. Either way, we review the list every 12 months and remove anything we no longer need.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your details, or ask us to correct or delete them, or to stop using them. Email hello@nearu.wales and we'll reply within a month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your details, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
